New Lands
The Lindgren /ˈlɪndɡɹən/ family was once a prominent family in Veltr prior to the great famine. Longbows lined their lineage, forging many a great archer. May it be for hunting or in the efforts of battle those in the Lindgren family know their arrows will strike true.
The Lindgrens sent their most youthful and valiant warrior, Mattias, on the journey to find new land. With this action they made him the last living testament to their existence. Along with his childhood friend Deirdru, among others, they trekked through the frigid north. Faltering in numbers and dwindling on supplies they made it to an island. Days spent off the coast of what they now know as Sprusia, treating the wounded, burying the deceased.
My men are starving, our bodies ache, I have buried 3 today. This tailwind has pulled us here for a reason I do not yet know. Yet if I falter now how many more of my people will die? Who will be left to protect them if I succumb now? I have to trust in what I know. This land is lush with fish to eat and trees to sleep under, we will survive the night. - Mattias Lindgren’s journal, 2 weeks upon arrival
Days Mattias spent trapped deep underground in a cave he could only describe as “The Death Mines”. In his quest for ores he was met with endless turns and monsters. It drove him out of food and out of energy until he finally found a way out.
I have been down here for what feels like millennia, the promise of a pint of ale in my future is all that keeps me going. I have burnt through my food supply, will there be nothing left of me? Will my story end here? – Deirdru has come for me, we both agreed to seal this place up forever. I made out with a story to tell and enough jewels to last us a month. May this be a promise for a safe life in this new land. - Mattias Lindgren’s journal, 5 weeks upon arrival
The Founding of Foehn
Under their newfound tailwind they found their way to founding the small nation of Foehn. Mattias cultivated his vision for a city he called “Arwyn” after his dearly beloved, who he lost to the famine. Through the construction of a small town and the Arywn long house, he felt completed. He provided shelter for all Foehnic people in his city and offered them a chance to rebuild. With Deirdru handling all political affairs that left Mattias with more local dealings. He helped construct houses, pave roads, and make sure all citizens were fed. Some called him the “acting mayor” of Arwyn but he didn’t care for such a title.
Is that why this land is referred to as "CInder"? The flames of rebellion, the sparks of change, they seem to drive everything forward. My hands smell of splinters and my legs ache, yet I keep marching, it's as if Odin himself is pushing me forward day by day. Maybe it is the companions I have made, the trials I have faced, but I feel "new" as if I am not the same person that left Veltr. In my heart I know it will always be me in the reflection of the waves. - Mattias Lindgren’s journal, 8 weeks after founding Foehn.
The Dragon Slayer
Mattias was known for slaying mighty beasts throughout the Evonian and beyond. His efforts against the great dragon and subsequent taking of its head were felt all across the land. This earned him the title “Drekaðrari” for his bravery and unwavering determination.
However, a great dread had befallen Mattias when the The Great Northern War began. He knew it was the time to act and declared his undying loyalty to his Jarl even if it meant his death. Not soon after this war was declared Jarl Deirdru Vergliez and Mattias Lindgren were declared criminals of Thundra for treason.
You are cowards, cowards who, in all of your egoism, tried to take this land which is rightfully ours. I realize where this new tailwind has been leading. It brought us to Aranna, just so we could liberate this land from you disgusting tyrants! - Mattias Lindgren’s letter to Thundra
