Palermo is the capital city of the Diryn Imperium and at the same time its most populous metropolis. Known for its baroque and neo-renaissance architecture, the city is at the centre of one of the physically largest metropolitan areas in the southern part of the main continent of Cinder.

Located in the Diryn Grasslands, Palermo is the pounding heart of Diryn culture, and home to many institutions such as the Supreme court and the High Council of Sol. Historically it has served as second de-facto capital of the Sanéan Commonwealth and was the stage for several famous court cases.

Culturally, Palermo serves as the beacon of the Diryn people, with the highest population of Diryns in the world of Cinder, as well as serving as a important transport hub, connecting the heartland of Dirynum to Danúvia and other imperial provinces, as well as the rest of the southern and western world through rail lines.

History

Palermo was founded as the settlement of Dyrenar in the southeast of the main continent of Cinder on the 3rd Moon of the 17th Dawn of the First Era. The city served as the foundation point for the Duchy of Dyrenar by Duke Cyrus the Benevolent, and the first building, the Terrasumma Palace, was constructed a day prior to its' founding. This building would go on to serve as the seat of the Diryn parliament, and the constitution of the nation would be ratified in the Palace a day later. Buildings in the central area were constructed slowly to follow the Duke's standards, and buildings such as the Consulate, Supreme Court, and Quentinpalaast were constructed over the course of several dawns.

Palermo would then be connected to the rest of the southern world through the SouthRail network, with Palermo Central Station opening on the 25th Dawn of the First Era. The station would soon grow to be home to numerous railway lines running throughout Dirynum.

Further developments would be made with the Theatrum Maximus' completion near the station and consulate, as well as the planned construction of a massive university. As well as this, the city of Palermo would be restructured into three districts - Centre, Hirona (in the north), and Malaspina (in the east, facing the Sanéan Ocean).
