Palermo is the capital city of the Royal District of Palermo in the Dirynum region of the Commonwealth of Sanéa. It is the most populous city in all of Sanéa, and once served as the capital of the Duchy of Dirynum. Known for its Baroque architecture, the city is one of the largest in the southern part of the main continent of Cinder, and serves as a beacon of art and administration.

History

Palermo was founded as the settlement of Dyrenar in the southeast of the main continent of Cinder on the 4th Moon of the 17th Dawn of the First Era. The city served as the foundation point for the Duchy of Dyrenar by Duke Cyrus the Benevolent, and the first building, the Terrasumma Palace, was constructed a day prior to its' founding. This building would go on to serve as the seat of the Diryn parliament, and the constitution of the nation would be ratified in the Palace a day later. Buildings in the central area were constructed slowly to follow the Duke's standards, and buildings such as the Consulate, Supreme Court, and Quentinpalaast were constructed over the course of several dawns.

Palermo would then be connected to the rest of the southern world through the SouthRail network, with Palermo Central Station opening on the 25th Dawn of the First Era. The station would soon grow to be home to numerous railway lines running throughout Dirynum.

Further developments would be made with the Theatrum Maximus' completion near the station and consulate, as well as the planned construction of a massive university. As well as this, the city of Palermo would be restructured into three districts - Centre, Hirona (in the north), and Malaspina (in the east, facing the Sanéan Ocean).
