The Democracy of Nauticca is an amply named democratic nation located in Western Cinder along the Lakes of Mondego and led by The Coterie of Nauticca. It's capital is Borinu, located at [2500, -200], in which there is the Borinu Market, an international marketplace which heavily contributes to Nauticca's focus on trading.

History

This category [HISTORY] contains some external and some internal lore.

Nauticca originates from a civilisation of pirates called the Nautilus. The Nautilus originate from the Lakes of Mondego, yet their main escapades took place beyond Cinder in an area named 'Salit'; due to a famine the Nautilus returned to the Lakes of Mondego after generations of being within the area of Salit. Several years after this, Nitalia Witting - who was a part of the youngest generation of Nautilus who had seen Salit - founded Nauticca (on the 14th of February 2024).

Nautilus

This chapter [NAUTILUS] is considered external lore.

Many centuries ago, a relatively small group of people originating from the Lakes of Mondego decided to migrate outside of their town, looking to venture beyond the world that is Cinder. After months of travel, they found themselves upon a large civilisation which called themselves “Salit”, and with much curiosity settled in what they could afford within the city, the lower class area. This group of people quickly saw and were victim to the exploitation and abuse that fell upon those who were of lower class, primarily done by those in the upper class of Salit. Quickly growing tired of the mistreatment, they decided to migrate to a hidden cove just beyond Salit’s reach along with several others of the lower class. Immediately, this group got to work, and created a large boat which they named ‘The Nautilus’. Upon this ship they would attack the large upper class ships of Salit, and eventually Salit named the pirates the “Nautilus” after their ship.

As the Nautilus populated, and more lower class citizens of Salit joined their group, the cove in which they inhabited would become more and more developed - with ships and small houses being used as residences. Only one ship would go out to loot ships at a time, bringing back riches and food to the Nautilus, some of which they would trade within Salit anonymously for supplies.

Throughout all of this, the Nautilus culture begins to form as more and more cultures merge together. The original group of people from the Lakes of Mondego would talk about the area they came from, and eventually it becomes established that the Nautilus who wish to begin another life would venture to the Lakes of Mondego. Many of the lower class Salit citizens would talk about an omen of the sea, which quickly developed into the folktale of Vomala. These are but a couple of examples in the vast range of traditions, which still stand today within Nauticca, created by the Nautilus.

After generations of surviving through the looting of these ships, trouble would arise when a famine began to spread rapidly through Salit. Due to an unknown reason, crops had failed and the majority of ocean creatures had left the area - the Nautilus believed it to be the works of Vomala herself. Being dependent on Salit, the famine quickly expanded to the Nautilus as well; as such they immediately went into action of departing all of their ships from the area. Their armada set course quickly to the Lakes of Mondego, but by the time of their arrival only few remained alive. Crashing upon the shores of Tebatari starving, they were brought back to health by their fellow retired Nautilus who had created a decent civilization within the Mondego area, and the piracy of the Nautilus was drawn to a close.

Cold War

Notes

  • The civilisation of 'Salit' is purely external lore and does not exist within Cinder.

Geography

The topography of Nauticca is relatively flat, bordering a large sea of the Lakes of Mondego. When it comes to climate and biomes, Nauticca is temperate-warm area with its primary settlements in old growth birch biomes; it borders and claims parts of the large savannah of western Cinder.

Government and Politics

Government

The Democracy of Nauticca abides by The Canons of a Nautilus, of which is effectively its constitution. Nauticca is a constitutional democracy led by The Coterie, of which is a group of up to three Commanders; Commanders are Citizens of Nauticca individually appointed through methods of election occurring at any point and serve until their dismissal through methods of expulsion or their own resignation. Similar to elections, expulsions can be proposed at any point and have an outcome solely decided by a majority vote.

Culture

The Borinu Market

Opened on the 01/03/24, the Borinu Market is the most prosperous international market of Cinder. Blah blah blah.

Vomala Folklore

Originating from the Nautilus, a common folktale of the Nauticcan people is that of Vomala. Vomala is a woman who can shape-shift into the form of a kraken; she supposedly lurks at the very bottom of oceans watching all people in all of their acts. The belief is that when you die, if you have upset Vomala by acts throughout your life - also known as having 'bad karma' - she will take you to Vomala's Harbour. You are also taken to it if you died whilst at sea.

Vomala's Harbour is the penultimate resting place, in which one who is trapped there can only leave once they discover the exit; escape is easier for those who have done better throughout their lifetime. If one escapes Vomala's Harbour, this is when their personal beliefs of their final resting place begin in this Nautilus folktale.
